This comprehensive treatise by one of Latvia’s outstanding art scholars, Dace Lamberga, covers a golden age in Latvian art: the period of classical modernism in the early 20th century. Lamberga discusses developments in Latvian art in the context of world art history, taking a chapter-by-chapter look at how various schools and movements were reflected in Latvian art. She also provides thorough coverage of the Latvian artists who embraced the modernist currents; numerous reproductions of works and historical photos from the period give a good overview of their work. The project for publishing the book in Estonian concludes the extensive cooperation between the Adamson-Eric Museum and the Latvian National Art Museum in introducing classic Latvian modernist art in Estonia.
