This issue of the Proceedings of the Estonian Art Museum contains a selection for 2015. Articles based on presentations at the Kumu Autumn Conference of the same name in October. “Shared Internships” was organized in cooperation with the Institute of Art History and Visual Culture of the Estonian Academy of Arts; it was the fifth Kumu autumn conference and also the third of the conferences focusing on post-World War II art in the context of socialist Eastern Europe.

2007. The 2012 conference “Different Modernisms, Different Avant-Garde” dealt with local definitions and expressions of modernist and avant-garde art in post-war Eastern Europe in 2012. The 2006 Conference on Art and Real Politics looked at the reflections of Cold War political power relations in the region’s art and art worlds.

Against the more panoramic background created by these two conferences, “Shared Practices” focused on the somewhat more specific, yet versatile 1950s-1980s. Phenomena reflecting the changes and re-evaluations of art in the 19th century: the idea of the synthesis of the arts re-actualized at that time, the patterns of interrelationships and intertwining of art forms, and the emergence of so-called interdisciplinary art forms in socialist Eastern European culture.
